Director of Financial Projects

The Organization

 The Medical College of Wisconsin (MCW), in the heart of the Milwaukee Regional Medical Center, is a private university with approximately 1,450 faculty, 3,700 staff, 817 medical students, 400 graduate students and 850 physicians in residency and fellowship programs. It is ranked 43rd among medical schools in NIH grants with $110MM in research funding, placing it in the upper half of the nation’s medical schools.  In FY 2009-2010, the school received a total of $157MM in external support for teaching, research and training. Patient services are provided through 1,200 physicians in Medical College Physicians and Children’s Specialty Group.  In-patient care is provided at MCW’s affiliated hospitals: Froedtert Lutheran Memorial Hospital, Zablocki VA Medical Center, and Children’s Hospital of Wisconsin, one of the nation’s top 10 children’s hospitals. The Medical College of Wisconsin’s visibility and reach are enhanced through Froedtert & Community Health’s affiliation agreements with St. Joseph’s Hospital, West Bend Clinic and SynergyHealth Foundation. In total, MCW medical staff saw over 1.6MM patient visits last year. Most recent years have rewarded MCW with above average revenue growth. 

The Medical College of Wisconsin is seeking a Director of Financial Projects to work with the Chief Financial Officer, other members of the Finance team and college leadership to improve the financial management of the college.  Improvements may occur by revising core processes or enhancing finance systems to improve the delivery of financial management tools and processes.  The Director will be responsible for creating the methodology for analyses to solve problems, including the identification of all key issues, engaging

stakeholders,  and  coordinating the activities and resources needed to complete projects.  Filling a newly created position, the Director will be a driver in advancing financial management at MCW through both direct hands on project activities as well as coordinating complex projects that encompass the activities of a wide range of college constituents.

 

Qualifications

 

Qualified candidates must possess a bachelor’s degree and eight years of financial management/analysis experience, including development of forecasting and monitoring tools and creation of related presentations.  A master’s degree is strongly preferred, as is experience in academic healthcare/large physician practices.  Additionally, top candidates must demonstrate success working to create productive relationships across a large, complex organization.  Substantial demonstrated success in developing and implementing project plans is essential.  The Director must be innovative and capable of managing competing demands and multiple projects.  Superior communication skills, both verbal and written, are requisite.
