Director of Patient Accounting

Our client is a healthcare network including a flagship 429-bed hospital offering full services in medical and surgical services.  The Level II Trauma Center last year saw over 60,000 patient visits while OB Services and the Level III neonatal unit served well over 5,000 babies.  The network also operates more than 20 community health centers, a psychiatric pavilion and a 24-hour Emergency Psychiatric Unit.   It is also the home of the largest family practice residency program in the United States, training more than 150 residents each year.  While serving as the primary provider for the indigent population in the county, the network also maintains a AAA bond rating based on its continuing strong financial performance.

 

The network now seeks a Director of Patient Accounting with planning and development skills to move a well-functioning department to superlative achievements through enhancements in employee career track development, plan development for further integration of the patient billing function into the mainstream of hospital systems and expansion of billing to serve additional service sectors of the network.  Continued evaluation of existing and new outsourcing contracts as well as denial management systems will also be key projects for the new Director. Reporting to the VP of Finance, the

new Director of Patient Accounting is charged with leadership of all billing and collecting functions for the in- and out-patient functions with a staff of approximately 45 FTEs reporting through two Managers and of course, will assure continued A/R days below 54, cash collections exceeding the goals and improvements in customer service.

 

Qualified candidates must have a minimum of seven years in patient billing and collections, preferably in an organization of comparable size and complexity; experience in both in- and out-patient billing is a plus.  Additionally, a minimum of three years in a supervisory capacity is required.  Candidates must also have a Bachelor's degree; CMPA or CHFP is a plus.  Active participation in AAHAM is valued.  Accomplishments in establishing a culture of accountability and shared mission are highly valued.
