Chief Nursing Officer

The Organization

Our client, a 21-bed surgical specialty hospital, now seeks a seasoned professional to serve as the Chief Nursing Officer (CNO).  The hospital is a joint-venture between a very successful and growing privately held healthcare services firm and a very dedicated medical staff.  Though the hospital was opened by physician partners, its superior clinical care and responsive leadership has attracted additional interest, so medical staff now numbers over 100 active members.  The hospital last year saw over 11,000 patient visits and performed over 6,000 surgeries in orthopedics, spines, urology and ENT; a general surgeon will soon join the staff. A recent expansion is expected to increase inpatient volume two-fold.  In the next year, the hospital will implement the CPOE and medication log modules of its EHR.

The next Chief Nursing Officer will assume leadership for all nursing staff, numbering over 100 employees.  The four to one nursing ratio renders the provision of quality and superior patient care a salient goal.   The core of staff brings a family-feel to the organization and serves as a tribute to the stability of an employee population committed to the success of the organization.  In fact, recently reported patient satisfaction scores are in the mid to high 90th percentile and 99% of all recently surveyed respondents said they would definitely recommend the facility to others.  2012 initiatives for the nursing leader will include continuing support of the spine surgery center of excellence, implementation of the next modules of the EHR, implementation of the Studer program principles, support of the launch of a new on-site PT program and brachytherapy program.

Qualifications

Qualified candidates must bring a minimum of five years leading the nursing function in a surgical hospital of comparable size and complexity.  A master’s degree is required, as is an RN license.  Experience must include success in planning for strategic initiatives and tactical implementation.  Superior candidates will bring a record of success facilitating growth in patient volume and medical staff participation, as well as increasing integration of affiliated facility services. To support the planned implementation of the EHR, candidates must also demonstrate a strong track record in planning for and implementing change processes at the operational and cultural levels.  Similarly, candidates with demonstrable success inculcating a quality/customer service focus will bring additional value to the hospital as it assimilates the Five Pillars of Excellence into its management model and pursues its first ever JC accreditation.

The Location

The community is a suburban enclave of highly educated families and singles. Though clearly of its own identity, the community is just 24 miles from one of the country’s four largest cities, so offers access to professional sports teams, an international airport, world-renowned arts and theatre, and four major universities.  The economy has been widely acclaimed as having flourished in the most recent several years and the cost of living is one of the lowest in the country.  With all projections pointing to continuing growth and prosperity, the community is a much-preferred location for virtually any lifestyle.
