Opportunity
Our client, a nationally renowned academic healthcare system
in the middle Atlantic region, includes a 779-bed Level I
trauma hospital, with over 30,000 inpatient admissions, a
520 member faculty practice plan, a highly successfully managed
care plan, and an Ambulatory Care Center that sees over 550,000
visits annually. The System has multi-disciplinary centers
for cancer, cardiology, neurosurgery and transplantation.
Its treatment of chest pain, strokes, organ transplant, head
and spinal cord trauma, burn and wound healing and neonatal
intensive care, as well as genetic research, has earned it
international recognition. Many VCUHS physicians have been
rankded amoung the top doctors in Richmond in specialties
ranging from allergies to vascular surgery. For several years
running, the health system has been selected by many of the
rating organiations including National Research Corporation's
Consumer Choice, Solucient "Top 100 Hospitals, US News and
World Report and as a technology leader by being recognized
as one of the "Most Wired" healthcare institutions. Demonstrating
its commitment to its employees, the System was also recognized

by Working Mother magazine. The System now seeks a Director
of Pharmacy to lead the patient care delivery and clinical
pharmacy programs on campus. Also, as part of an academic
medical center, the Director of Pharmacy will support the
School of Pharmacy in the recruitment and training of the
students and residents. First charged with improving pharmacy
services to better support the growth of ambulatory care volume
growth, the new Director will build systems, infrastructure
and processes to expand and capitalize on new and existing
resources. In leading the professional capability of the department,
the Director will improve staffing efficacy through assessment,
planning and implementation. Also, with new, automated dispensing
systems soon to be installed and final decisions on the pharmacy
clinical information systems linkages to be assessed, the
new Director will be charged with aligning department IT sophistication
with campus-wide capabilities and commitments. |
Qualifications
Qualified
Qualified candidates must have earned a Doctor of Pharmacy
(Pharm.D.) and a Master's in healthcare administration, business
or related field. Additionally, a minimum of 10 years progressively
responsible experience in hospital pharmacy management including
five years in a senior level administrative role is required.
Experience directing out-patient and clinical pharmacy programs
as well as experience in academic healthcare is essential.
Demonstrated success in planning and implementation in large-scale
projects is also required. Excellent verbal presentation and
written communication skills are requisite. The community
