Director, Materials Management

The Opportunity

Our client is a healthcare network including a flagship 429-bed hospital, a surgical hospital, a Level II Trauma Center, a substantial OB Service and a Level III neonatal unit. The network operates more than 20 community health centers, a psychiatric pavilion and a 24-hour Emergency Psychiatric Unit. It is also the home of the largest family practice residency program in the United States, training more than 150 residents each year. While serving as the primary provider for the indigent population in the county, the Network also maintains a AA+/Aa1 bond rating based on its continuing strong financial performance. Financial viability is evidenced in that only 30% of the current expansion project was financed externally. The Network is ranked in the top 100 Integrated Health Systems in the United States, according to the Verispan list of the 100 best performing integrated healthcare networks, published in the February 6, 2006 issue of Modern Healthcare.

As part of a substantial growth and development plan, the Network just broke ground on a new 5-story patient tower with a total of 220,000 square feet. It will include more than 100 new beds, new surgical suites and a new emergency department/ Level I trauma center with capacity for 85,000 annual visits. In operations, the Network is supported by recent enhancements and additions of software including the Lawson ERP. The Network is also a major medical teaching site that sponsors 170 training positions in eleven programs. Its affiliations include University of Texas Southwestern Medical School and Baylor Medical Center. The Network also enjoys affiliations with the University of North Texas Health Science Center and Texas A&M Health Science Center.

The Network is seeking a Director of Materials Management to direct a department of 38 through two direct report Managers. The Director will be charged with maximizing the opportunities of the newly installed Lawson ERP, including creating a contemporary model of healthcare materials management with a focus on supply chain management.
