client, a large health system, is comprised of 8 hospitals including
a 600-bed flagship Level I Trauma facility, a 300 member physician
group practice and 3 ambulatory surgery centers. The System
has been recognized as a Top 20 Integrated Health System, a
Top 100 Most Wired Hospital and a Top 25 Wireless Hospital.
Providing healthcare to the entire Southwestern section of Virginia,
the System continues to grow in size as well as sophistication.
Already employing over 300 physicians, it continues to add practices
that will nearly double its employed physician staff over the
next three years as a robust multi-specialty clinic is formed.
Recent clinical innovations that keep the System among top healthcare
providers include robotic heart surgery and Cyberknife. A medical
school teaching affiliation with the University of Virginia
and numerous residency programs assure patients cutting edge
interventions and employees an innovative and challenging environment.
A leader also,
in management and administration models, the System was among
the first to create a Vice President of Revenue Cycle position.
Now a well-established function, Revenue Cycle includes Health
Information Management, Patient Access, Patient Financial
Services, Financial/Credit assistance and a Collection Agency.
In total, the function includes 700 employees, provides service
to both hospitals and physician practices and to 50 external
organizations such as hospitals, colleges and physician practices.

Key
indicators place the system among top performers in A/R management,
records management and cost controls for these services
In
the near-term future, the Revenue Cycle function will be challenged
to integrate the growing number of physicians in the practice
plans. Additionally, consideration, planning and facilitation
of an electronic medical record in the hospital settings will
move to the forefront. As the System grows, on-going evaluation
of current patient financial systems will be required, also.
The
next Vice President of Revenue Cycle must possess a record
of success leading all functions in patient financial services,
a well-developed understanding of issues impacting revenue
collection at all stages of the patient experience and superior
business acumen to lead the for-profit entities under this
function. Additionally, the next Vice President should have
substantial experience in business planning, budgeting and
project management. Experience developing and leading a large
group of Directors will be essential. A minimum of 10 years
in a senior level financial management role as well as a Master's
degree is required. Experience at the CFO or VP Finance level
is highly valued as is experience in both hospital and physician
practice settings. IT system selection and implementation
experience is a plus. |
